This policy explains what information Heart-Strong collects, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

Who we are

Heart-Strong is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in the State of Maine. EIN # 42-2881340. Our mailing address is 135 Maine St, Suite A #131, Brunswick, ME 04011. You can reach us at hello@heart-strong.org.

Information you give us

  • Your name and email address when you fill out a form on our site

  • Billing and payment information when you donate or buy something. We never see or store your full card number.

  • Shipping information when you order merchandise

  • Your email address when you subscribe to our Substack

  • Anything you choose to write to us in a message

Information collected automatically

When you visit heart-strong.org, we and our service providers collect standard technical information. That includes your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you viewed, how long you stayed, and the site you arrived from. We use Google Analytics for this.

Cookies

Our site uses cookies. Some are necessary for the site to work, such as keeping items in your cart. Others help us understand how people use the site. You can turn cookies off in your browser settings, though parts of the site may stop working properly if you do.

How we use your information

  • To send you stories, updates, and invitations you have asked to receive

  • To process donations and orders and send receipts

  • To respond when you contact us

  • To understand how the site is used so we can improve it

  • To meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of companies to run this site and our work. Each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data.

  • Squarespace, for website hosting, forms, and the store

  • Stripe, for payment processing

  • Substack, for email and publishing

  • Printful, for order fulfillment

  • Google Analytics, for site analytics

How long we keep information

We keep information for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, and as long as tax and accounting rules require. Donation records are kept for at least 7 years.

Your choices

  • You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in any message

  • You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it

  • Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the General Data Protection Regulation. We honor these requests regardless of where you live.

Children

Our site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.

Security

We work with service providers who maintain industry-standard security practices. No method of transmitting information over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date above.
