What Do You Actually Want Abundance Of?

At the end of August, Becca and I flew to California for a wedding we weren't going to miss. There was just one problem. Money's tight right now. We've stepped away from most of our paid work to focus on Heart-Strong and Becca's work on AI. When money's tight, travel is one of the first things to go.

Airline miles got us there and back. We still needed places to stay.

So, we started reaching out to people to let them know we'd be coming their way. Something cool started to happen. Our relationship wealth started to show itself.

A friend I'd only known through online conversations invited us to stay in his guest suite. He sent us the door code before we'd ever met in person. The next morning he flew to New York. His instructions were simple. Stay as long as you like and just lock up when you leave.

Old friends made time for long hikes and longer conversations. A couple we'd met once earlier in the summer offered their house while they were back in Maine.

We'll take sharing a meal and an extra bedroom in someone's home over the Four Seasons any day.

It got me thinking about abundance. For me, it starts with enough to live comfortably. From there, the abundance comes from relationships and experiences.

Earlier this year, a Campfire Conversation guest shared a question I've come to think of as one of the real assessments of wealth. Who in your community knows and loves you, and who do you know and love in your community?

By that measure, this trip showed us just how much abundance we have.
